“And so a child shall lead them.”, this describes what took place for myself and my family. We joined the Catholic church 20 years ago. My husband, (Harold), was not a practicing Catholic and I was attending the United Church in Loon Lake.


When we moved out to the farm in Barthel, there was a small boy who took our son under his wing and introduced him to the Catholic Faith. We have never looked back since. We found home, more so for Harold. The tangible hands on articles of worship in the Catholic Church, serves to reinforces the teachings in every day living. It is the Mass, that truly answers the calling in every person’s heart.


My mother-in-law introduced me to the Catholic Women’s League, I had a two year grace period before becoming a full fledge member. I am now a member for 14 years. This act of kindness has changed my and our family’s life. You may attend Church, however, in being a member of this wonderful organization, you also now have an extended family, who not only looks after our community values and morals, but those in the world. There is such an inclusiveness that this great organization fulfills.


I began teaching the catechetical program out of our home, to the Barthel Parish children, and expanded the teachings to three parishes in the basement of the Loon Lake church.


I also am involved in the music ministry for our parish. I play the organ, however, do not request me to sing, I guarantee you will be sorry.


I have served on my local council as Education/Health chairperson, Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and President.


I have also served at the Diocesan Level as Community Chairperson, Organization chairperson/President Elect, and now as President.


I serve on the NWSD Board of Education, and actively volunteer where possible.


My professional career, I work for Canada post Corporation, as a Local Area Superintendent.
