Rita Hengen

I spent my young years in Grayson, Sk., living on a farm with my parents and six brothers. I was blessed to be taught by Ursuline Sisters all but two of my school years. I went to Saskatoon Teacher’s College. My career was halted by the birth of 4 children but resumed later as a teacher-librarian in the Regina Catholic School system.

I am a charter member of St. Martin de Porres (St. Martin’s) CWL in Regina and have held almost every executive position (some more than once), including president. At the diocesan level, I served as communication and education and health chairperson. I am on the 2013 National Convention Planning Committee. CWL has been and continues to be a big part of my life.

My parish responsibilities include chairing our pastoral council and attending finance, stewardship, liturgy, prayer shawl ministry and our parish 50th anniversary (in 2012) committee meetings. I am also a proclaimer.

I am the recording secretary on the Advisory Board for Visitation House, a drop-in centre for women and children in the inner city.

I love to garden (play in the dirt!), crochet, knit, read, bake, cook, go to art shows with my husband Dave who is an artist, and attend any events that our children or 9 grandchildren are involved in.
